“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones.”
From its inception, Stripes39 has aspired to do good. Though much has changed about our business over the years, we continue to work tirelessly to build our toolkit in the hopes of one day being able to change the world by moving society at large to do good. However, we recognize that it is silly to focus on only some grandiose end game, when there is good we can and should be doing today. In fact, it is only by doing good today that we can ensure we don’t lose sight of what matters and that it remains part of our DNA as a company. We've launched Stripes39.org to capture the good work we are doing today, and to hold us accountable to continue to do more.
In 2011 and 2012 Stripes39 was involved in donating and wrapping toys for disadvantaged youth that our founding investors Sungeeta, Sushma, & Sahib Jain work with in Delhi, India. While it may seem small, the joy that these toys bring these children is not - many of them have literally never had a real toy to call their own.
Super Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest typhoons ever, resulted in thousands of casualties and left many thousands without the basic necessities for survival. Stripes39 matched the thousands of dollars donated by our team members to help those in need. We partnered with our offshore team, who put together hygiene kits for families and worked with the Albay government and the Philippine National Red Cross to distribute these kits effectively.
One Day's Wages (ODW) is a non-profit organization that hopes to inspire people around the world to donate their one day's wages (or money they raise any way they feel compelled to or are able) to the cause of alleviating extreme global poverty. One Day's Wages posted an entry on their blog about their quest for a new office space, and we at Stripes39 felt compelled to invite them into ours.
Spearheaded by a member of our team, in December of 2012 we ran a Toys for Tots campaign to collect toys less fortunate Children to receive on Christmas day. The box we setup was unable to fit all the toys people donated in the first week alone!
Stripes39 joined with all the companies in our building to make and send hand-cut snowflakes to Sandy Hook Elementary School after the tragedy there. These snowflakes, requested by their PTA, were used to line the walls and create a “winter wonderland” at the school. The hope was to brighten the moods of the children when they returned from winter break, if even just a little bit.
On January 15th, members of our team joined in with Dolce Vita, a women’s shoe company, to donate blood at a Puget Sound Blood Center bloodmobile. Every blood donation can help save as many as three lives.
It isn’t lost on us that this list is sparse, and that we can and should be doing more. We’ve begun brainstorming for 2014, so stay tuned by connecting with us:
